Head Coach Full Time

The Sherwood Park Crusaders are seeking a Head Coach to help lead our hockey operations and play a significant role in shaping the next phase of the organization’s growth, both on and off the ice. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about developing players, building relationships, and creating an environment centred on accountability, professionalism, and daily improvement. The successful candidate will be expected to become an important part of the organization’s identity within the BCHL and the community.

About the Role

This position is responsible for overseeing the team’s on-ice identity, player development environment, and daily coaching operations. The Head Coach will work closely with hockey operations staff in areas including recruiting, roster management, player advancement, and organizational planning. The role requires a strong communicator and culture-builder who can balance high-performance expectations with long-term player development.

Team Environment

• Establish a standard of professionalism, accountability, and competitiveness throughout the organization
• Create a culture where players are challenged daily while feeling supported in their development
• Maintain strong relationships with players, staff, families, billets, and advisors
• Reinforce the organization’s reputation within the league and broader hockey community

Coaching & Hockey Operations

• Lead all practices, games, and team preparation activities
• Implement a clear on-ice identity and playing structure
• Oversee special teams, game management, and team systems
• Work collaboratively on roster decisions, recruiting strategy, and player evaluations
• Identify and recruit players who fit the organization’s culture and style of play

Player Advancement & Development

• Support players in reaching junior, collegiate, and professional advancement goals
• Conduct regular player meetings, evaluations, and development tracking
• Collaborate with performance and support staff to maximize player growth
• Mentor players in areas including leadership, habits, and professionalism

Staff Leadership

• Lead and mentor assistant coaches and support staff, and manage task delegation
• Encourage collaboration and communication across all hockey operations departments
• Help maintain an organized, detail-oriented, and team-first working environment

Qualifications:

• Experience coaching and leading within a high-performance hockey environment
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with players, staff and stakeholders
• Strong organizational abilities with a high level of attention to detail
• Comprehensive understanding of modern player development and team systems
• Commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and community engagement
• Motivated to support player advancement and growth both on and off the ice

Previous junior hockey experience, recruiting experience, post-secondary education, and coaching certifications are considered strong assets.
