About The Position
The Peer Support Worker provides a unique perspective through personal experience of the mental health system. As a member of the team, the Peer Support Worker seeks to facilitate the recovery of people living with mental health challenges by providing an inclusive and safe space that creates opportunities for community-based peer support and skills.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in social services or an equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in community mental health with experience providing group facilitation
- Lived experience is a requirement
- Experience working from an anti-discrimination, anti-oppression and trauma informed perspective
- Able to establish supportive and trusting relationships with individuals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in social recreation programming
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work independently
- Satisfactory police records search and vulnerable sector screening
- Satisfactory references
- Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 by receiving the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada, including a booster dose, and must provide CMHA Toronto with proof of vaccination prior to their start date.

Responsibilities
- Welcome new members to the centre and complete intake
- Develop and maintain specialized peer groups and facilitate recovery groups
- Utilize personal experience to support members
- Provide one to one peer support sessions with members both in person and on the phone
- Engage members in social/recreation activities.
- Support other staff members with the delivery of recovery focused workshop(s)
- Provide all services using a recovery framework
- Develop a trusting relationship with members
- Engage members to participate in activities and look for opportunities for members to connect
- Provide members with information on programming and community resources
- Setup rooms and program preparation,
- Ensure that attendance of groups are documented daily
- Ensure space is clean throughout the day and participate in clean up duties at end of shift
- Additional duties as assigned
