Employment Type: 6-month contract to hire

Compensation: $20-$26/hr

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Field Cable Technician 1 to support on-site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low-voltage and IT infrastructure systems. This individual will work in commercial and industrial environments assisting with structured cabling, fiber optics, security systems, wireless equipment, and audiovisual installations.

This is a hands-on, entry-to-mid level field role ideal for candidates with experience running cable, installing hardware, and supporting technical systems under the guidance of senior technicians or project leads.

Responsibilities

• Assist with on-site installation, maintenance, and repair of low-voltage and IT equipment
• Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot CAT5e/CAT6 and fiber optic cabling
• Perform basic fiber terminations, fusion splicing, and OTDR testing as needed
• Support installation and maintenance of access control systems, including card readers, keypads, intercoms, and biometric devices
• Install and configure CCTV/surveillance systems, including IP and analog cameras, NVRs/DVRs, and network connectivity
• Assist with installation of wireless systems, including Wi-Fi access points, antennas, and cellular signal boosters
• Deploy and support POS systems (terminals, printers, card readers, cash drawers)
• Install and mount digital displays, video walls, and AV equipment
• Run and terminate low-voltage, coaxial, Ethernet, HDMI, and AV cabling
• Perform routine system inspections and preventative maintenance
• Document work completed and report issues to senior technicians or management
• Communicate professionally with customers and provide basic user training
• Follow all safety regulations, company procedures, and industry standards

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of structured cabling, low-voltage systems, or IT infrastructure
• Experience using hand tools and basic testing/diagnostic equipment
• Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and work flexible hours if needed
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Prior experience with:
• • Fiber optics (splicing, termination, testing)
  • Access control or CCTV systems
  • Wireless networking or antenna installation
  • POS systems or digital signage
• Post-secondary education or technical training in electronics, networking, or a related field
• Familiarity with TIA/EIA cabling standards
