We design and manufacture suspension components for wheeled and tracked military vehicles and off-highway machines used in construction, forestry, mining and agriculture. These components include passive and semi-active dampers and hydro pneumatic struts. Horstman Canada is a CGRP-registered corporation and is a RENK group company.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for the technical aspects of the manufacturing facility.  This is a role within our operations team that leads our manufacturing engineering group to optimize production processes ensuring a safe work environment, high-quality products and cost-effective manufacturing operations. This individual is also responsible to drive continuous improvement (Lean/Six Sigma), manage capital projects, and collaborate with Product Engineering as well as Production to implement and refine new technologies in support of current and new product designs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The role reports to the Director of Operations and works in a close-knit team with all members Horstman Canada, as well as the wider Horstman Group and RENK parent company

Pay Range – 105K – 120K

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to)

• Safety: Lead the organizations established safety program working with the internal JH&S committee and team members to continuously improve our safety performance
• Team Leadership: Mentor and manage the team within manufacturing engineering, maintenance and the toolroom to achieve performance goals and objectives.
• Management of Sub Contractors and internal preventive maintenance programs.
• Process Optimization: Develop and improve manufacturing techniques, workflows, and procedures to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.

FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

• Canadian resident with Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status (due to the nature of some of the projects)
• Effective communicator in English, both oral and written
• Applicable technical education (Minimum technologist or bachelors degree in applicable field such as Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Aerospace and/or Engineering Science)
• Minimum 10 -15 years of relevant industry experience as well as demonstrated supervisory ability to lead a team of skilled individuals.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE (include but are not limited to)

• Fundamentals of Occupational Health and Safety programs pertinent to manufacturing operations and Ontario Regulation 851 for industrial establishments
• Foundations of Lean, elimination of waste and Six Sigma Manufacturing principles
• Machine fundamentals including (but not limited to)
• Electrical / PLC / HMI controls
• Mechanical systems & tooling
• Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems 
• Metal Processing Alternatives (CNC, manual milling, lathes, robotic welding, grinding, heat treating, etc.)
• Familiarity with welding processes and the development of WPS and WQR as per the American Welding Society Welding codes.
• Design software application familiarity such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar
• 8D problem solving techniques, driving formal corrective actions when necessary
• Low volume metal manufacturing and assembly (Small Lots of 20-500 pieces)
• Quality system familiarity including ISO9001/ 8D Problem Solving
