About The Position
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Toronto is seeking a Mobile Crisis Worker for the Toronto Community Crisis Service (TCCS). This service provides 24/7 support to individuals experiencing a mental health and/or addiction crisis in northwest Toronto. This program is part of a City of Toronto police reform initiative to evaluate non-police-led responses to non-emergency crises, aiming to reduce harm for those with mental health and addictions challenges, as well as Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQ2+ and other marginalized individuals. The TCCS is a collaborative program involving several partner organizations. The Mobile Crisis Worker will be part of a multi-disciplinary Mobile Crisis Response Team, offering crisis response around the clock. The team may include nurses, peer specialists, mental health clinicians, and concurrent disorders specialists. The role is part-time permanent, with an hourly rate of $32.30 – $35.39 + 4% in lieu of vacation. Hours of work are 12.25 per week, typically on Saturdays, with rotational shifts. The work location is 700 Lawrence Ave. W, Suite 326, and in the community.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Social Services (or equivalent).
- Minimum two years of experience in community mental health and addictions, either through work or lived experience.
- Strong knowledge of clinical and crisis assessments, concurrent disorders, homelessness, crisis intervention strategies, Trauma-Informed Care, and strengths-based service models.
- Understanding of client-centred and recovery-oriented approaches.
- Knowledge of systemic and structural factors (SDoMH) that impact Black, Indigenous, racialized, and LGBTQ2S+ communities, and the intersectionality of systemic barriers and social determinants of health.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Availability to work shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
- A valid Driver’s Licence is required.

Responsibilities
- Provide crisis assessment and intervention, de-escalation, harm reduction, suicide prevention, anti-oppressive practice, client-centered and recovery-oriented care, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive care to support individuals and families in crisis.
- Exercise sound judgment in using de-escalation strategies, conducting suicide and risk assessments, and developing immediate and longer-term safety and support plans.
- Work collaboratively with the individual, their family, and other service providers to ensure access to appropriate community resources.
- Participate in community outreach.
- Liaise with key stakeholders and partners.
- Maintain trusting, respectful, and collaborative relationships with clients, families, colleagues, referral sources, and the public.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical and non-clinical documentation.
- Actively contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Northwest Toronto Community Crisis Service through meetings, training, strategic planning, and evaluation initiatives.
