As the Applications Engineer, you will:
Create instructions for installation and testing of applied products
Lead the design, implementation and validation of circuits, enclosures, wiring, and operator interfaces for use in a harsh environment.
Select and validate suitable sensors, actuators and electronic components for system integration.
Investigate and evaluate new control technologies and methodologies.
Develop and implement new and innovative algorithms for mechanical and electrical system control.
Design and implement engineering schematic designs and/or changes with respect to control systems hardware and software.
Perform diagnostics software updates
Perform on-site control system and locomotive commissioning at globally located rail yards
Complete technical and project administration documentation using Visio, Excel, Word, etc.
Provide technical and customer support for product applications
Minimum Qualifications:
Mechatronics, electronics, Controls or Electrical engineering degree or diploma
3 – 7 years with control systems engineering preferred
Experience with PLC & HMI programming
Experience in rail industry and systems integration preferred, although automation industry experience a definite asset
Knowledge of physical, electrical and environmental design standards for locomotive applications
Excellent knowledge of available off-the-shelf power systems, sensors, electromechanical devices, digital and analog electronics.
Understanding of control algorithms and algorithm design practices.
Excellent technical writing and documentation skills
Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication skills
Ability to travel up to 30% to customer sites for on-site commissioning of ZTR equipment.
