Clinical Data Scientist – Connected Health

We are looking for a Clinical Data Scientist (full- or part-time), who is passionate about shaping the future of digital healthcare, to join our Connected Health team at Zimmer Biomet. You’ll have the opportunity to design, build, deploy and improve data-driven products that will improve the quality-of-care and quality-of-life of Orthopaedic patients worldwide.

The AI & Data Science team

The mission of our UK-based AI & Data Science team is to build data- and AI-driven products that improve outcomes, satisfaction and quality-of-care for Orthopaedic patients.

Our work covers three core areas:

• Product development: designing, prototyping, and developing the advanced insight, prediction and decision-support algorithms that underpin our patient- and clinical-facing applications.
• Clinical and product analysis: supporting our biostatistics team in clinical validation studies, and our product teams in better understanding how our products are used.
• Platform development: building out tooling and platforms to support data-driven product development across Zimmer Biomet, supporting efficient experimentation whilst designing for best-practices in Software-as-Medical-Device development.

The role

In this role you will be analysing clinical and healthcare datasets to help understand how they can support both our data product development, and clinical publications. You’ll be performing statistical analyses, and building prototype machine learning models to validate product and research hypotheses. Working in collaboration with our ML Engineers, you’ll have the opportunity to take these algorithms into production. You’ll be keeping in touch with the latest technology and algorithms in healthcare data science, evaluating them in a pragmatic way, and working with the team to incorporate them into our products and processes.

Examples of our toolset include:

• Jupyter notebooks for exploratory data analysis;
• Python for algorithm development;
• Pipelines and experiment management tools for reproducible research and workflow management
• Azure DevOps and AzureML for orchestration of models.

Outside of our core data science team, you will also have the opportunity to work closely with biostatisticians, product managers, UX designers, regulatory and quality management, working together to build accessible products that address user needs, whilst also ensuring due diligence and best practices around sofware-as-a-medical device.

You should apply if:

• You are passionate about using data science to improve healthcare;
• You are keen to work as part of a cross-disciplinary product team, including interacting with the team and stakeholders to define roadmaps and milestones;
• You have experience working with healthcare datasets, and are sensitive to the challenges there-in;
• You are interested in engaging in research activities (such as publications and collaborations with other R&D groups internal and external);
• You have a keen interest in applying statistical and ML techniques in a principled way;
• You are an advocate of reproducible research;
• You have programming experience and are keen to develop this skillset further;
• You are keen to learn more about the end-to-end development, deployment and monitoring of machine learning algorithms as part of business applications;
• The idea of shaping a new line of business excites you, and you’re comfortable working with some ambiguity;
• You are comfortable giving and receiving feedback, and sharing ideas openly with your team;
• You have experience communicating analyses, technical ideas and their value to a range of audiences;

Logistics

We are a remote-first team, with occasional meet-ups in London. We actively support flexible working. We would consider a part-time (at least 50%) employee for this role.

Our colleagues are based in the U.S. and so there will be the need to occasionally be available for evening meetings.
