About the Team:

The Quantum AI team at Zapata is exploring paramount research questions in Quantum Machine Learning (QML). We investigate the interplay of trainability, generalization, and expressive power in quantum-inspired and quantum generative models as we explore paths to practical quantum advantage. The team’s effort involves the development of new algorithms and techniques, along with the release of an ever-growing proprietary software library (QML Suite), implementing them and making them available for application to real-world use cases. About the Role:

We are looking for a QML Software Intern to help us develop, maintain, and enhance QML Suite, Zapata’s proprietary QML library in Orquestra®, our platform for building and deploying quantum-ready applications®. As a QML Software Intern, you will work with the team to expand the range of algorithms and models offered within the suite and extend the functionality of existing ones based on feedback from the suite’s users and ongoing research.

Internships during summer 2023 are preferred, but later dates will be considered case-by-case. While this position is potentially fully remote, it requires partial availability during EST time working hours. Our team highly values in-person interactions, preferring candidates willing to relocate to or occasionally visit one of our offices (Toronto, ON, or Boston, MA).

Key Responsibilities Include

• Expand the range of existing algorithms and models offered within the QML suite.
• Modify and extend the functionality of existing algorithms and models within the QML suite based on the feedback of the suite’s users.
• Maintain algorithms and models in the QML suite to ensure the best performance for users.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Currently enrolled in B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. program in computer science, physics, math, or related technical field.

• Experience developing software for technical computing in Python.
• Experience working with common machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Jax.
• Experience in one or more ML tasks, for example, generative modeling, natural language processing or pattern recognition.
• Familiarity with common neural network architectures, such as GANs, Autoencoders, RNNs.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Experience with more advanced neural network architectures and concepts, for example, Transformers, Variational Auto Encoders and flavors thereof, RNNs with attention, and beam search.
• Knowledge of at least one Jax deep learning library, such as Flax or Trax.
• Knowledge of Julia or other programming languages (e.g., C++).
• Experience with high-performance computing, such as multithreading, distributed computing, or GPU programming and profiling.
