What You’ll Do
The Parent/Child Home Visitor is responsible for providing home visits to families with young children aged 16months- four within the YWCA’s Family Housing programs which range from an extended shelter program with integrated services for homeless families to transitional housing and permanent housing. This position follows the family and continues engagement with them for a minimum of 23 weeks per year for 2 years. The focus of these visits is to model how to use books and educational toys for generating enthusiasm for learning and verbal interactions which will increase & support school readiness.
This position has a social justice component that requires critical thinking through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principles of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work are required job skills and core values. Responsibilities
- Attend training for the Parent Child Home visiting program provided by the Site Coordinator or National Center for Parent Child Home Visitor Program
- Must meet outcomes for services delivery determined by PCHP and Supervising staff
- Coordinates delivery approach and services with other YWCA staff i.e. Willows, DV, Family Village Issaquah and Family Village Redmond.
- Provide home visits 23 weeks 2x a week to parents of children age 16 months to 4 according to the agency and National Parentchild+ guidelines
- Provide age and culturally competent services
- Work hours convenient for the parents and children being visited
- Model behaviors that enhance children’s development and promote school readiness
- Provide home visits 23 weeks 2x a week Family childcare providers and children aged 0 months to 5 according to the agency and National Parentchild+ Guidelines.
- 2x a week home visits and FCC visits 30/45 minutes each, 1st visit bring book or toy and demonstrate how to use to cultivate language and verbal skills
- Provide documentation as required by the PCHP National Center and YWCA programs
- Apply strength-based model as a method of delivering services for all families
- Attend weekly team meeting with Site Coordinator and other parent child home visitors
- Maintain a current Washington State Driver’s License, proof of insurances and access to a vehicle
- Respond to messages daily Monday through Friday
- Actively engages in agency-wide Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI), and strives for racially equitable outcomes; takes responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming community by making room for people of color, trans and gender-non-conforming folks, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions
- Adhere to all Volunteer Services protocol relative to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring
- Attend required safety trainings and meetings; follow all safety and health guidelines, standards, practices, policies and procedures; and actively participate in the agency’s Emergency Preparedness program and activities

Requirements
- Experience working effectively & respectfully in a multicultural setting; thorough understanding of culturally specific community
- Experience working with young children
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of child development
- Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team and to make sound judgments without on-site supervision
- Ability to make home visits as needed and to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends when necessary
- Reliable transportation
- Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures other than your own
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist principles
- Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills of basic computer competencies such as emailing, calendaring, entry-level data entry and familiarity with Microsoft Office products
- Core Competencies Expected: At least 5 core competencies required, list available here; Core competencies must include Fostering Diversity and Race & Social Justice Advocacy
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual Speaker a plus
- Former participant of the program is a plus
Hours, Rate, and Benefits
Hourly Rate: $21.00
Hours: 40- Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plans
- At the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan
- After two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement Fund
