The Community-Based Mentoring Program Facilitator will support the expansion of the YSS Community-Based Mentoring Program. The Facilitator will work directly with YSS staff and community partners to identify children and youth to participate as mentees, schedule mentor visits, and monitor and evaluate progress of matches. The Facilitator will communicate with parents/legal guardians, caseworkers, and YSS staff to obtain permission to participate in the program and program activities. The Facilitator will be responsible for recruiting, screening, training, and familiarizing mentees and mentors with the program. They will match mentors with mentees based on personality, interests, and availability, and will be responsible for ongoing support and evaluation of the program. This Facilitator is also responsible for maintaining records through online databases and supporting grant requirements and reporting.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE/SKILL
- Bachelor’s degree in education, child development or related field or equivalent experience is required.
- Two years of experience performing similar or related job duties.
- Experience with public speaking and working with volunteers.
- Experience working with children in a school setting and/or direct service of high risk youth is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TASKS/EFFORT
- Recruit, screen, and train mentors according to program procedures and National Standards.
- Match mentors and mentees on the basis of established program procedures.
- Work with YSS and school personnel on referral of children and youth to participate in the program as mentees, as well as scheduling of mentoring times, program activities and locations, and other logistical matters.
- Work with YSS and school personnel to establish expectations for children/youth participating in the program.
- Work with parents of children participating in the program to obtain permission for participation, as well as their understanding support of the mentoring relationship.
- Work with supervisors and YSS staff to collect statistical material on hours of service and number of meetings with mentees.
- Maintain records per grant and program requirements.
- Complete evaluation tools as assigned.
- Maintain high morale among mentors; reward and recognize volunteers for a job well done.
- Work as a team with other Mentoring Program Facilitators and the Mentoring Manager.
- Promote and advertise the Mentoring Program.
- Organize special events and get-togethers for all mentor/mentees, e.g., holidays and on several occasions over the summer months.
- Establish ongoing training opportunities for mentors, and actively support each mentoring relationship.
- Attend required meetings and trainings.
- Complete a minimum of 6 hours of training per year related to mentoring, prevention and volunteer management.
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
- Accept and complete all other duties as assigned by supervisors.

POSITION TYPE
This is a non-exempt, part-time position based on assignment.
TRAVEL
Some travel may be required for this position. A valid Iowa driver’s license is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level is usually minimal to moderate. Works in well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.

This position will engage and assist all YSS volunteers (individuals and groups) adhering to volunteer management best practices to ensure meaningful volunteer experiences. This position will maximize the skills and interests of all YSS volunteers to better impact our organization and the youth and families we serve.
