Pro Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching)
For almost 200 years, York St John University has transformed lives of people from all backgrounds through the power of education. Over the last few years, the University has embarked upon a series of major initiatives including a campus in London and a new Creative Centre on our York campus which opened in November 2021. The foundations have been laid for a bold and exciting future.
Under Vice Chancellor, Professor Karen Bryan, the University is now seeking to recruit a Pro Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching). The new PVC will provide strategic and academic leadership to improve the impact and outcomes of the academic student experience across the University. The appointee will be tasked with delivering our ambitious learning, teaching and student experience strategy in order to achieve a strong Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) rating and to continue to improve our NSS performance. The Sunday Times recently ranked York St John in the top ten institutions in the country for teaching quality. The new PVC will work very closely with the Students’ Union and the wider student body, ensuring provision of high quality and transformative academic support. The PVC will report to the Vice-Chancellor and will be a full member of the Executive leadership team with line management responsibility for the five Heads of Academic Schools.
The ideal candidate will be of professorial standing and a strategic leader with academic credibility and senior management experience gained in the Higher Education sector. They will bring significant experience of delivering excellence in learning and teaching, academic delivery and student experience, and will have led complex change. Excellent knowledge of policy developments in the HE sector and the TEF and NSS will be critical. Candidates must be able to foster a culture of inter-disciplinary team working, make tough decisions, and inspire a community around common aspirations.
