York School of Music is looking in particular for teachers of piano, saxophone and singing but we are interested to hear from anyone who would like to expand their teaching on a self-employed basis.
So many teaching agencies take a large cut and give nothing back to their teachers. Our aim is to provide a supportive network for new teachers and teachers looking to expand their student base. We take a small cut from each lesson (10% from £18/£27/£35 for 30 minutes/45 minutes/1 hour) for a minimum of 12 months, after which if you don’t want to take on any more students you have the option to take your students and continue to teach privately. If you’d like us to continue finding students for you and providing support then the contract can continue.
The support we offer you includes sending students your way, helping with administration tasks, entering your students for exams and providing/helping you to find accompanists, purchasing music on behalf of your students, helping you organise hire instruments for students if required, promotion of your concert work and providing a network of teachers with whom you can work, share ideas and socialise at our biannual concerts. We also offer extra support for the students, including access to theory and aural support classes.
About Us
York School of Music was founded by violinist, Paul Milhau, a graduate of the Royal College of Music. Working with like-minded teachers, the School offers individual instrumental/singing and theory lessons, group theory classes and chamber music coaching for all levels and all ages. Whether students want to start learning, prepare for an audition, exam or concert, or find other musicians to be able to enjoy chamber music together, we offer different options according to the students’ needs and schedule.
York School of Music tailors lessons to suit the personal musical development of our students. We use ABRSM and Trinity examination boards for those who wish to take exams.
