YMCA of Rock River Valley Hiring for Tutor at Rockford, IL Full Time

The Tutor is responsible for providing students with high-quality, individualized assistance to help them learn new concepts and complete assignments. Their duties include studying lesson plans and reviewing textbooks to prepare for a lesson, assigning additional projects and answering a student’s questions about a topic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reviewing classroom or curricula topics and assignments.

Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks.

Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.

Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions.

Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics.

Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides.

Providing students positive and constructive feedback.

Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate.

Supervises the students, classroom, and all activities.

Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.

Ensure a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.

All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required.

Some experience working with high school aged youth is preferred.

Math skills are highly desirable.

Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Minimum 18 years of age.

Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

CPR, First Aid & AED certification within 90 days.

Praesidium trainings.

Ability to display passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

Part Time, Non-Exempt

Monday- Friday 4:30-7:30 pm

$33-35 per hour
