Position Focus:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Registrar – Collections, the Wurtele Study Center Coordinator will work closely with Registrar, curatorial departments, Collections, and Education to maintain and update collection records, provide collections management support, assist with object study, and provide support for Wurtele Study Center activities.
Essential Duties:
Following protocols and stationed primarily at the Wurtele Study Center, the position will work with the following departments in the described capacities:
Registrar and curatorial departments: Assist with maintenance of permanent collection and Allan Chasanoff collection records by conducting inventories, reconciling analog and digital records, cataloguing, entering data in the collections database or other databases. Collections: Pull objects for study, monitor permanent collections use, ensure safety of collections. Education: Provide administrative and logistical support by for class visits, appointments for researchers, and long-term appointments by gallery staff for project work within the Wurtele Study Center; greet visitors and assist with class teaching needs; arrange transportation; monitor classes; synchronize schedules with Security. Order classroom and Center supplies. West Campus and YUAG Facilities: Coordinate cleaning of the Wurtele Study Center and associated classrooms. Coordinate and monitor facilities-related access for maintenance and repair activities. Other duties related to registration, collections management, and support of object study and programs may be assigned.

Essential Duties
1. Serves as source of specialized information to the public, visiting scholars, and students. Explains and describes the collection and available reference material through workshops, lectures and in response to inquiries. 2. Maintains the order of and ensures the special care, security, and proper user handling of collections and exhibits. Reconstructs, repairs, and restores art/specimens using preservation and conservation techniques. Catalogues and makes routine identifications of new acquisitions. 3. Conducts research related to the collections and exhibits. Selects art/specimens for display. Prepares collection for exhibition. May assist with installing and disassembling exhibits. 4. Composes correspondence related to the collections and exhibits. Oversees and instructs support staff. 5. May prepare budget and financial material related to particular collection. May collect specimens for use in exhibits. Performs clerical functions incidental to curatorial activities.
Required Education and Experience
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Demonstrated ability providing administrative support.

Ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment, and to be a team player.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail. Excellent Organizational skills.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Proficiency and willingness to learn and work competently with specialized software, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), relational databases (TMS), and event management systems (EMS).
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Ability to work and travel between the Collection Studies Center, at the University’s West Haven campus, and main campus in downtown New Haven.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree. Experience working in a university museum environment and/or as a classroom scheduler. Interest in the arts.
Physical Requirements
Ability to safely lift up to 25 lbs. and handle objects of art.
