Finance is a key function focused on quantifying, analysing and evaluating AXA XL’s performance in order to provide insightful and accurate information to a number of external and internal stakeholders. The work performed by Finance is used for a variety of purposes such as development and implementation of business strategy, managing risk and controls, compliance with regulatory requirements in the UK, and across the globe. Another important part of the Finance function is partnering with other functions, for example underwriters, by providing first-hand insight into their financial performance and assist with business planning.

Finally, we will provide you with study leave and the full support you need to complete your professional accounting qualification – you can choose between ACCA or CIMA.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

Your responsibilities will vary across teams, but wherever you go, your managers will work with you directly to establish clear objectives and maximise your development opportunities. Some examples of your potential responsibilities are highlighted below:

• Reviewing the financial performance of the company against the plan or prior year results, and providing commentaries to “tell the story” and provide information to aide decision making;
• Producing the Syndicate Business Forecast return for Lloyd’s of London or the financial plan for the Company platform.
• Analysing and making recommendations on optimising the expenses of specific product divisions, or understanding the drivers of variances to plan;
• Taking part in various Change Management projects and assisting with the implementation of new systems and processes;
• Maintenance of accounting ledgers including posting journals, reconciling accounts, reviewing work prepared offshore, and providing evidence and support to assist the internal and external auditors of AXA XL.
• Provide forward looking thinking, forecasting and analysis to assist capital management and strategic decision making.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills or the aptitude to acquire them:

• Solving complex problems through logic, initiative and skill, and this forms part of a finance professional’s daily role. You will be working with complicated processes and procedures and will need to be adept at interpreting and manipulating data. Attention to detail and strong numerical skills are essential.
• This is an interactive role and you will work with a wide range of professionals including actuaries, underwriters, claims, risk and compliance managers at all levels, so the ability to build successful relationships and to communicate well to different audiences is important.
• Working in finance demands a wide range of skills, including time management, data interpretation and analysis, the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and work in and with varied teams.
• Academic requirements: Must have or expect to achieve a 2:1 or above in your undergraduate degree; minimum of 320 UCAS points in your top three A-levels (excluding General Studies) or equivalent.
