Who Are You?

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for providing assistance in the development of instructional materials necessary to support college-level online learning and executive development. This person will work collaboratively with faculty/subject matter experts to assist in the development of various multimedia elements, including audio, video, and graphic/animated components in support of implementing online learning and project-based learning. The Instructional Designer will participate in the design and development of online courses; provide instructional design support and guidance to subject matter experts (SMEs) in the creation of online course content; work collaboratively with other development team members in the production of online courses, and associated print materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and build online courses at the college-level and for executive development.

• Use the Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Captivate, design the graphical and animated content that goes into Learning and Development course material.
• Create engaging learning activities and compelling courses that enhance engagement and knowledge retention.
• Apply adult learning theories and instructional design methodology
• Research, recommend, produce and edit training materials for a variety of delivery methods including eLearning, instructor-led, and blended learning
• Participate in the needs assessment, design and development of product, role, and competency specific curriculum design documents
• Interact with Subject Matter Experts in planning and scoping requirements for curriculum
• Function as part of the curriculum team and independently in the design, development, and testing of instructional materials
• Review curriculum offerings from team members, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement; contribute to new curriculum and/or program ideas
• Contribute to storyboarding, authoring, and development of e-learning content and blended learning solutions
• Confirm learning objectives throughout the course development and piloting processes
• Design and develop supporting learning aids for print, classroom, and on-the-job training materials
• Develop assessments, tests, quizzes, surveys and evaluations for each course
• Work within a training team with Subject Matter Experts in the planning, development, and execution of annual training events
• Understand instructional design end goals and create graphic design content that matches them.
• Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product.
• Ability to follow strict brand guidelines as well as other graphical and written standards.
• Apply tested instructional design and graphic design theories, practices and methods.
• Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
• Create supporting training content that includes (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)
• Help decide on the criteria used to judge a learner performance and assist in the development of assessment instruments.
• Maintain project documentation and course folders.
• Other duties as assigned.

What’s required:

• At least 3+ years instructional design experience in a collegiate or corporate setting
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology/Design, Information Systems or other related fields
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Ability to work at a high velocity while multitasking
• Strong in following systems and processes
• Excellent computer skills to include:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, multimedia software packages (captivate/flash/articulate), digital video editing video streaming, and other production tools.
• Ability to write documentation and user guides for all academic applications for faculty and students, and ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty/students/staff.
• Demonstrate broad familiarity with the software and electronic resources required by faculty and students at academic institutions.
• Possesses personal computer skills and an understanding of commonly used software packages and emulation packages.
