Welfare & Pension Administration Service, Inc. is a third-party administration (TPA) firm, specializing in multi-employer benefit plan administration, and located on Mercer Island, WA. We currently administer nearly 80 Taft-Hartley and Public Trust Funds which cover benefits for Health and Welfare, Disability and Time Loss, Dental, Vision, Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, Vacation, Apprenticeship, and Legal Services. Our goal is to create a state of the art, fully integrated benefit management platform that will meet the needs of our clients.

Position: GAAP Accountant – Exempt Job:

This role is a great transition role from Public Accounting; utilize your acquired knowledge and skills, but leave the long hours behind! The Trust Accountant ensures that year-end financial reporting for each of the Company’s administered Trusts conforms to GAAP, such that each Trust can be independently audited, and Forms 990 and 5500 can be accurately prepared utilizing these financials as a basis.

Job Duties:

• Calculate benefit obligations for various Trusts.
• Obtain reports from actuaries, consultants and investment managers, utilizing the information as necessary to fulfill job duties and answer questions.
• Provide internal and external auditors with information needed to prepare Form 990 – “Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax” and Form 5500 – “Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan”.
• Prepare accrual entries for revenue and expense accounts with detailed supporting schedules.
• Analyze general and administrative expenses for Trust accounts utilizing general ledger detail and trend analysis.
• Accurately record prepaid, accrual, reclassification and adjusting journal entries.
• Develop accrual-based trial balance with financial statement drafts and documentation to support notes to financial statements.
• Summarize investment activity for the fiscal year using reports prepared by custodial banks and investment managers.
• Perform final review and sign-off for Benefit Compliance team reports.
• Provide ongoing support for Account Executives and other WPAS personnel.
• Work with IT personnel to create and generate specific information reports.
• Provide funding status information to Clients upon request.
• Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as requested.

Minimum qualifications:

• CPA license is required
• 3-5 years of experience in financial accounting or public accounting audit role.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Proven track record of positive communications with internal and external clients
• Demonstrated ability to keep calm and positive in all communications.
• Proven ability to provide accurate and timely work product, while working independently.
• Meticulous attention to detail is required.
• Confident user of MS Word and Outlook, intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Excel.
