We are seeking a sustainability consultant to join our team, based in Melbourne, Australia.

Woods Bagot’s Global Impact Group (GIG) works across our 17 studios to implement our comprehensive sustainability commitments, collaborate with design teams on compelling projects, and help our diverse clients deliver their sustainability and resilience goals. Our GIG team is design-led in our approach to sustainability, using a systems-based model for implementing sustainability in the built environment. We are especially focused on the climate crisis for our clients and projects, understanding how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors into long-term resilience planning and immediate action. GIG at Woods Bagot also works within a sister company, ERA-co, which offers urban systems planning, user experience design, branding, and sustainability consulting for the built environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Candidates should combine design skills with a background in sustainability, ecology, or materials science and interests in social equity and human-centered design practices. This position would suit a qualified Architect with sustainability expertise. Candidates should be able to demonstrate analysis experience, good communication skills and the ability to interact with clients. Research experience is also beneficial as this role will include the development of approaches to evaluate sustainable building techniques and technologies. Our deliverables are primarily visual presentations, sustainability strategies and frameworks, technical assessments to support design outcomes (ranging from performance benchmarking to solar and daylight assessments, etc.), and ing documents associated with carbon metrics, Architecture 2030, and Architects Declare.

Candidates should have experience in creative approaches to visualising data and be prepared to present and discuss research findings and sustainability strategies to clients and lay-person audiences. As a consultant, our core work involves writing and visually communicating our ideas and recommendations, but we are always pushing new approaches to design communication, including digital and experiential deliverables.

Key Deliverables:

• Manage and deliver contribution to projects on time, to budget and specification
• Maintain client relationships
• Provide thought leadership as part of internal/external communications
• Support multiple studios across time zones on projects and client development
• Coordinate internal communications and ing for sustainability initiatives

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural engineering, ecology, environmental science, or building science-related course of study.
• Experience with collaborative working environments.
• Experienced in use of analysis or design software, particularly Rhino or Revit, Adobe InDesign, Excel, Radiance/Ladybug/Honeybee, Pollination, and Grasshopper.
• Working knowledge of the LEED and/or WELL rating systems and / or other sustainability rating system.
• Experience with sustainable and ethical materials procurement and specifications, as well as embodied carbon modeling.
• LEED Green Associate or AP is preferred, but not required.
• Able to interact with clients and represent Woods Bagot externally;
• Good communication skills—written, oral, and electronic—are essential for team-based working;
• Ability to think broadly across several focus areas and bring together an optimized solution;
• Analytical thinking to draw sensible conclusions from own work and communicate these clearly to others;
• Outgoing and personally persuasive;
• Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment and managing multiple jobs at once without losing track of need for completion of subtasks;
• Ability to self-direct research, find new ideas and approaches, and innovate on the job;
• Able to work in teams with diverse technical and consulting contributions;
