Job Description

Some exciting opportunities have come up to join the education team at Windsor Community Children’s centre. Candidates for the role should be passionate about early childhood development and the work that is undertaken within it. They should be able to show open and transparent communication skills in building respectful relationships with children, families and educators. Candidates should also be strong in using their knowledge and skills to implement a program that challenges all in their approach, promote learning through collaboration and engage with critical reflection.

About Windsor Community Children’s Centre (WCCC)

We are a not-for-profit, community-run long day care and kindergarten, providing care and education to children aged from 6 months to 5 years. We are in the heart of Windsor, Melbourne. We are forty years young with a proud history of providing accessible quality education and care. WCCC is a professional work environment where our staff are respected, valued and cared for. WCCC staff are offered excellence in current and relevant professional development opportunities, as well as coaching and mentoring. We recognise the importance of our staff’s health and wellbeing.

WCCC has places for 54 children across four rooms. All WCCC rooms implement a holistic program, centred on play-based learning and intentional teaching, while creating learning environments that are responsive to all children’s strengths, skills and interests. The outdoor space is large and natural with a focus on environmental sustainability. WCCC’s kitchen has pride of place in the Centre and provides nutritious pescatarian meals to the children and staff every day. We have strong partnerships with the higher education and tertiary sector. We are on a journey of reconciliation and building lifelong learning and respect for our Indigenous culture. We are a child safe environment and are committed to children’s protection from abuse.

The Roles

Through the advertised roles you will have the opportunity to build knowledge and experience through responsibilities such as

• Use the centre’s philosophy and approved learning frameworks to implement a curriculum that caters to the individual needs of the children whilst balancing a mix of adult-led, child-led and guided experiences.
• Work in a collaborative manner with both the team and management as a way of engaging in reflection and providing a challenging and safe environment.
• Be part of a larger team of educators that come together in a reciprocal and respectful manner to support, learn and empower each other.
• In conjunction with the rest of your team, using strategies to observe, plan and assess learning ensuring all children are supported in their journey.
• Throughout your time within the centre there will be multiple opportunities for professional development sourced both by management and individually.

Early Childhood Educator Role

About You

We are looking for someone who meets the following criteria:

• Certificate 3 or Diploma of early childhood/children’s services or ACECQA assessed equivalent qualifications.
• Sound, practical working knowledge and implementation of the National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework.
• Current First Aid Certificate/Asthma & Anaphylaxis certificates.
• Current WCCC.
• Up to date vaccination history status.

Key Selection Criteria:

• A thorough understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework (including Principles and Practice), NQS and ECA Code of Ethics with evidence of use within practice.
• The ability to question, reflect, collaborate and provide feedback, to further improve quality and the curriculum.
• Ability to produce quality written documents.
• Knowledge of current pedagogical stances such as the Anti-Bias approach, sustainability and ethical practice.
• Competent in the use of a range of IT programs and application.
