TECHNICAL SPECIALIST
Williamson & Associates, Inc. is a Columbia-based, regional consulting firm. We advise closely-held business owners, professionals and executives on business, tax, financial planning, and accounting matters and provide related services. Our mission is to help our clients build, protect and transfer wealth in accordance with their goals and objectives. Our focus is on planning; we do not sell financial products or provide investment advice or services to our clients.
We are similar to an accounting firm in that we render tax and accounting services, but our revenue is principally derived from regularly scheduled planning and counseling sessions with our clients carried out by our counselors, counseling associates and technical specialists, generally grouped as three-person service teams permanently assigned to specific clients. The specialists’ primary responsibility is to perform routine accounting, tax and financial planning tasks that are assigned to them by counselors and counseling associates. Those tasks typically include 1) posting transactions in clients’ accounting systems and making adjusting entries thereto; 2) preparation of business financial statements and financial projections; 3) entering data and assisting in the preparation of business and personal tax returns; 4) answering routine tax and accounting questions; and 4) preparation and editing of worksheets, reports and correspondence, etc.
Our Technical Specialist position is comparable to a paralegal in a law firm. Basic skills in accounting and taxation are important, but these attributes are also essential: 1) promoting a trust relationship with clients through prompt and regular contact; 2) ability to efficiently gather, organize and format financial and tax information for use in planning engagements and the processing of tax returns and financial reports; and 3) managing multiple tasks under pressure. To summarize, a Technical Specialist should have these qualities:
In qualifying applicants for the position, our first priority is to identify the right personal attributes. We can and will provide and supplement the requisite technical skills and continuing education as necessary, through coursework and mentoring by our senior personnel.
