About the Position:
The Williamsburg Learning Student Support Specialist works with parents and students under the Academics team.
The Student Support Specialist is a part of the Academics Team and reports directly to the Director of Instructional Support. This is school year only based position (August – May), paid hourly. Hours are expected at 20 hours per week and to flex up to 25 hours per week at specific times of the year.

The role is responsible for the following:
Open Communication and Support between Families and WL
– Welcome new students and families to WL. Reach out to explain your role and establish a line of communication when students are struggling.
– Triage behavioral/mental health referrals to EDs and school counselors when necessary. Support mentors and families with resources as requested
– Ensure WL mentors are trained on policies and best practices regarding recognizing students who are at risk.
Implement WL’s Student Support Model
– Update Director of Instructional Support about overall student progress.
– Track students using WL’s Student Support Processes.
– Identify Green, Yellow, and Red Zone students and respond in alignment with WL’s RtI System
– Contact students who are struggling and log all contact as Intervention in SIS.
– Support mentors in documenting student progress.
– Attend weekly L10 meetings.
– Administer Lab/Tutoring Services in collaboration with Instructional Support Team and Academics Team.
– Use universal assessment tools such as NWEA MAP Testing for progress monitoring purposes.
– Administer and analyze standardized testing data and suggest instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize the probability of student success.
– Use data to help mentors identify students who need additional support
– Assign RtI students IXL skills based on academic needs identified through NWEA testing or mentor communication
Provide Support Services to Students
– Communicate with students via email or meetings to provide weekly support as needed. Continue communication throughout the semester and log all communication in SIS.
– Share insights and guidance that meet the individual needs of students.
– Provide organizational materials that will help students have an accurate picture of themselves as a student and promote good habits.
– Teach students develop executive functioning skills that support their academic learning.
– Collaborate with mentors to provide individualized support to students in alignment with WL’s RtI Tiers of support
– Notify students when deadlines, such as midterms or finals, are approaching, and offer specific support reminders.
– Provide and hold students accountable to academic plans or contracts, when needed.
Liaison with Partner Schools on Students with Special Needs
– Update Administration and Program Leaders about overall student progress.
– Attend IEPs from partner schools as requested/directed.
– Collaborate with partner schools to provide support to students
– Record all communication and intervention in SIS
