About us
Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.
About the role
The role of HR Officer has arisen due to relocation of the current postholder. It is designed to support the HR Manager in providing a high quality, comprehensive and effective generalist operational human resources service to hospice workers and managers covering the lifecycle of both staff and volunteers.
You will support the delivery of HR objectives whilst providing professional advice and support on employment issues and will be experienced in leading on casework including disciplinary, grievance, appeal and redundancy.
The successful candidate will be qualified to (or currently studying) CIPD Level 5 in human resource management (or equivalent), with up to date knowledge of employment legislation and best practice.
You will join a small team supporting a workforce of 125 staff and 600 volunteers who are all key to the service we deliver to our patients. Communication skills and relationship building are essential within this role together with project management experience.

A Disclosure and Barring Services Check (DBS) will be required.
What we offer
Existing membership of the NHS pension scheme may be transferable to this post, if contributions have been made within the last 12 months.
The available role
We are looking to appoint to one 29.5 hour a week post with core hours being 8.30am-4.30pm (4pm on Friday’s) however on occasion you will be required to support the hospice slightly earlier / later than this. Working days must include Monday and Friday however we are open to discussion regarding the other mid week days.
