What You’ll Do: Reporting to the Senior Manager Maintenance, the M&R Manager is responsible for defining a higher standard through the effective and efficient execution of the maintenance strategy for Western’s Canadian manufacturing division. The M&R Manager will be responsible for the implementation & management of a modern and effective preventative maintenance program, the implementation of a consistent maintenance & reliability strategy across the division and the management of all maintenance & reliability standards. The M&R Manager will also be responsible for actively promoting a culture of reliability and continuous improvement through effective planning & scheduling and standard maintenance & reliability practices
Who You Are: Our ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Electrical Engineering with ten plus years’ experience in maintenance & reliability preferably in a sawmill or similar heavy industry. The candidate should be proficient with the use of computerized maintenance management systems and have extensive experience in the development of maintenance programs and reliability systems.
Work Environment: We are currently working in a hybrid work environment. Expectations for the time being are that this role will be a mix of, work from home, work from office with proper safety plans, and travel to our Manufacturing operations on the East Coast of Vancouver Island. Travel time to sites will be required 50-70% of the time with our operations running between Port Alberni and Cowichan Bay.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Commitment and ability to push toward operational excellence and reliability and managing a consistent and uniform approach to maintenance across all the mills.
Working closely with operations managers, providing leadership to maintenance superintendents with a focus on safety, productivity, quality and cost effectiveness.
Help develop, implement and ongoing management of the condition monitoring program for the manufacturing division ( vibration analysis, lubrication, oil analysis, thermography, NDT etc. )
Development and ongoing management of equipment criticality assessments, equipment strategy data sheets, maintenance plans & reliability programs matched to expected failure modes.
Lead development and ongoing management of BOMs and other strategic initiatives.
Support the implementation of planning & scheduling best practice across all mills as well as ongoing support.
Develop reliability solutions to systematic issues and manage any required changes to the maintenance program.
Identify opportunities and initiate action plans to increase equipment reliability.
Support the development and the ongoing management of the asset management plan through the use of predictive and other condition monitoring programs.
Ensure the effective management of all records, licenses, inspections and regulatory compliance.
Advise maintenance and operations management on opportunities for work management improvement and advise the team on best maintenance practices.
Maintain vendor and contractor relationships to ensure optimal support to the business.
Support the SMM to standardize, simplify and streamline existing systems and processes in a culture of continuous improvement.
Support superintendents with process to ensure all craft are trained and competent to execute all required maintenance activities.
Ensure lessons learned, best practices and action items are communicated across all manufacturing sites and implemented as required.
Assist with Root Cause Failure Analysis activities to improve maintenance tactics & strategies to optimize overall equipment effectiveness.
Work on reducing waste and inefficiencies in the various operations.
Ensure the effective execution of all scheduled job plans.
Assist with the improvement of job plans and remove bottle necks.
Ensure all Work Orders are fully completed & closed out and all WO notes are captured.
Assist Supply Chain with initiatives for inventory management and reduction.
Accountable for the performance management of site maintenance superintendents.
Provide coaching/mentoring and learning & development plans for superintendents.
Set expectations and audit maintenance execution to ensure compliance to the overall Maintenance & Reliability standard.
Ensure all Preventative Maintenance and Condition Monitoring programs are effectively managed and executed.
Facilitate risk management sessions to identify reliability related risks that can impact plant reliability.
Work with the various mills to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering practices and techniques.
Help develop, implement and manage the pressure system integrity management program for all the manufacturing mills.
Develop KPIs to measure performance of the maintenance program.
Develop standardized PM inspection templates for common equipment and share best practices from industry leaders.
Stay abreast of industry innovations to improve maintenance performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
10+ years of experience in maintenance & reliability in increasingly responsible roles, preferably in a sawmill or similar heavy industry.
Demonstrated proficiency in maintenance practices, performance measures and maintenance systems.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
Proficient with the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Extensive experience in the development of maintenance programs and reliability systems.
Demonstrated proficiency in developing and implementing condition monitoring programs including vibration analysis, lubrication and oil analysis.
High skill level with Excel and data analysis & reporting tools.
