We have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Co-op Student to join our team at the Ladysmith Sawmill on Vancouver Island, BC for either a 4- or 8-month term.
What You’ll Do: You will be assigned to initiate and manage interesting projects relative to Western’s manufacturing operations. The projects typically include analysis of existing operational bottlenecks and/or process efficiencies with the objective of problem solving, identifying, and recommending improvements. Other areas of focus include quality control, shipping, maintenance planning, and relief supervisory duties.
Who You Are: Suitable for a student currently enrolled in a Wood Processing Program (or similar) and/or Mechanical Engineering program to experience true, real-world work scenarios. The assignments are designed to provide you with meaningful experiences and the opportunity to work alongside dynamic industry leaders who are interested in your success. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is eager to learn, has strong analytical skills and understands the importance of upholding strict safety standards.
Work Environment: This role is to be performed in person at our Ladysmith Sawmill, with proper safety plans in place.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Currently enrolled in a Wood Processing Program (or similar) and/or Mechanical Engineering program;
Excellent computer skills, with a particular emphasis on Excel and Access;
Knowledge of Visual Basic, databases and sawmill specific systems (LISA, Lumber Track, etc) is a strong asset; and
Previous wood products manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
