West Power Energy is looking for a Principal Transmission Line Engineer to join our growing team in our greater Los Angeles area in Arcadia or San Diego office. The successful candidate will to the Director of Engineering. In this position, you will work with a dynamic team partnering with utilities to design a safe and reliable grid to meet future clean energy objectives. As a Principal Transmission Line Engineer, you will act as a technical expert with a focus on teamwork, continuous improvement, and performing high-quality engineering. This position has advancement opportunities which include the potential for either additional technical or people leadership. The primary duties include:

Technical

· Applies expert knowledge of commonly used transmission concepts, practices, codes, and procedures in the transmission engineering industry

· Use appropriate technology and methodology to select transmission line route, line layout, optimization, for new transmission lines or upgrades, and find non-standard design solutions

· Model transmission structures using Power Line Systems (PLS) software including any underbuild and third-party attachments, guying, and Communication Infrastructure Providers

· Oversee structure design and analysis and prepare loading trees

· Perform quality reviews for transmission projects, includingusing design-specific tools such as PLS-TOWER and PLS-POLE.

· Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (Civil/structural, telecom, transmission, etc.)

· Creating, improving, facilitating, and teaching training courses to the project team and department

· Prepare and present technical s for clients and industry publications

· Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the firm in the areas of transmission line projects and structures

Project Engineering and Client Satisfaction

· Leads engineering components of projects including preparing budgets, cost estimates, and ing project engineering performance

· Provide guidance and instruction to the transmission engineering department, mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers

· Identification and communication of technical risks associated with projects

· Analyzes trends in project performance metrics and makes recommendations to the project management team on corrective actions

· Oversight of engineering work required to meet deliverable milestones

· Ensures projects are closed-out and archived in a timely manner in accordance with applicable procedure

· Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and support the development of new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals are met.

· Serves as technical advisor for the team and in most cases, the primary technical point of contact for the client

· Support the client in developing or updating their transmission line design standards on subjects related to transmission structures and grid/fire hardening

· Support proposal development

· Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college

· Minimum 12 years experience in transmission line design or equivalent

· Professional Engineering (P.E.) license

· Working knowledge of PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER

· Knowledge of design, calculations, and design systems/software to execute production

· Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook)

· Strong analytical, and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Working knowledge of GO95, NESC, and Wildfire Mitigation is a plus

· Minimal travel, up to 20% of the time

Preferred

· 2 years of experience with UG transmission line design

· 2 years of experience with tower analysis and design

This position’s base salary range approximation is $150K – $190K, depending on numerous factors such as applicable experience, skills, knowledge, credentials, geographical location, etc.
