Wesley College Melbourne, a Uniting Church school with a rich tradition spanning 154 years, is a diverse, dynamic, coeducational learning community with more than 3,400+ students aged between 3 and 18 years across three main campuses.
In addition to the city campuses Wesley College (the College) also offers a remarkable sequence of outdoor experiences that we carefully layer into our school program from Years 3 to 10. The outdoor education sites extend across three distinctive locations each providing programs to our students consistent with the local environment.
Our Chum Creek property is a hardtop camp on 300 acres of bushland, located in the Yarra Valley near Healesville. In the forests and foothills of the Central Highlands, this region is important, beautiful and bountiful. With close proximity to Melbourne, the place makes it a very accessible location for Years 3, 4, 5 and 7 programs, which focus on feeling comfortable within the natural environment, understanding ecological concepts, and introducing ways to enjoy the forests within the site.
As a residential position, with a family home on offer, this is a golden opportunity for a VIT registered Outdoor Education Teacher and Leader commencing at the beginning of 2023 for a full-time ongoing contract. Applicants should be innovative and enthusiastic, have a genuine love of learning and thinking and be able to demonstrate a commitment to student-centred learning and collaborative practice.
To be successful as the Program Leader of the Chum Creek Camp, you will require the following:

• VIT Registration is essential for this leadership role.
• Previous experience managing a Hard-Top Camp property including site management would be advantageous.
• Competencies in plant use including tractors, slashers, chainsaws and other small plant are requirements of the position.
• Skills and experience in administrative operations, including liasing with parents and school staff, and various software applications.
• Expertise in OHS Management, including all aspects of site safety, risk assessments, plant and chemical management, maintenance of material safety data sheets, emergency management plans, anaphylaxis/asthma management in addition to the management of care plans for students whilst at camp.
• Management of the local council requirements on behalf of the College
• Previous experience in developing programs to engage young people, taking into consideration developmental stages of each Year level, cultural sensitivities and student experience levels.
• Experience with food handling, menu preparation and management with the onsite Cook.
• Demonstrated experience in managing an onsite team of Outdoor Educators, Program Assistants and trainees to deliver an exceptional camp experience, in addition to a demonstrated ability to manage & mentor Outdoor Education Trainees (Certificate 3/4).
• Ability to liaise with College Facilities and other departments to ensure the successful delivery of the College’s camp program at Chum Creek and including the ongoing management of the College’s camp assets.
• The personal capacity to manage the physical demands of an outdoor environment and outdoor supervisions.
• Qualifications in High and Low Ropes, and safe use of 4WD Vehicles are essential
• Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability and education in keeping with the philosophy of the Camp and the College.
