Wellington Professional Recruitment Looking for Project Planning Manager (Construction) at Belfast, County Antrim Full Time

As Project Planning Manager you will join a successful team based in Belfast, helping deliver a capital investment plan for a wide range of civil engineering and building projects. Projects types include building upgrades, new build, permanent way (track), structures (bridges, earthworks and sea defences) and include complex, multidisciplinary projects as well as minor works.

In your role you will support the ongoing development and management of the portfolio plan, ensuring future project priorities, timelines, dependencies, benefits, budgets and risks are reflected and strategically managed. The focus will be on forward planning with a view to planning strategic projects through early stage development and prime for implementation.

This role is for initially for 12 months with the opportunity to be extended or become permanent.

As Project Planning Manager your new role will include but not be limited to the following:

• Coordinate strategic planning to ensure future initiatives are identified and prepared for inclusion in the forward planning process.
• Project manage strategic planning studies and ensure alignment with existing strategies and plans.
• Ensure future projects are assessed at an early stage in relation to alignment with strategic objectives, value/priority score, conceptual budget and risk of delivery.
• Develop conceptual cost estimates and timelines for future projects based on agreed assumptions and review as the portfolio plan progresses.
• Develop resource plans for future programmes and projects and identify resource constraints and capacity.
• Identify and manage inter-dependencies between project and programmes.
• Engage with external bodies to understand potential interfaces and ensure interproject dependencies, constraints, risks and opportunities are identified.
• Manage strategic projects through early-stage development including Strategic Outline Case (SOC) and prime for implementation.
• Monitor ongoing project and programme activity and changing strategic environment to understand impact on future projects
• Report on strategic planning requirements including change, budget/resources, dependencies and risks/issues.
• Ensure compliance with company policy on data management and ICT requirements

Essential experience should include the following:

• Possess a degree qualification in Construction, Engineering or other relevant discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in planning and/or delivery of capital projects.
• Experience in developing or managing project costs and timelines
• Experience in developing project delivery strategies
• Sound knowledge of project management methodologies
• Excellent communication and organisational skills to collaborate and plan projects with multiple stakeholders
• Experience in MS Project

Desirable experience could include:

• Experience in NEC3 project procurement process
• MSP Foundation/Practitioner
• Project Management qualification, APM or Prince.
