We are seeking to recruit a Finance Partner to work closely within the organisation to help deliver our mission of maximising the societal benefit of knowledge obtained from genome sequencing. To do this you will be able to use a wide range of the skills you possess to provide flexible, proactive and timely financial expertise at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

Working with a wide variety and large number of stakeholders, you will provide intelligent financial reporting, financial management support including modelling and assistance to budget holders across the Institute and the CFO. Alongside the Head of Reporting, you will support on strategic initiatives and management decisions and provide expert financial guidance and opinion to assist non-finance professionals in developing budgets and managing their financial responsibilities.

Paramount to the success of this role is the ability for you to work independently, demonstrating initiative, creative thinking and problem solving and to build strong open and transparent working relationships with a wide variety and large number of stakeholders.

Effective time management detailed forward planning and project management ensuring that the goals of finance and key stakeholders are being met is also key to this role.

Essential Skills


Technical:

  • Fully qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent or equivalent working experience
  • Experience working in financial accounting/financial partnering/finance management
  • Strong grasp of fundamental principles behind budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling, valuations, activity based costing and other management accounting concepts together with a pragmatic mind-set
  • Advanced Excel skills (including but not limited to pivot tables, lookups, formulae, graphs etc)

  • Strategic thinking and ability to understand how the Finance team supports the broader aims of Sanger science and how the Institute delivers science at scale
  • Ability to build trusted business relationships through using strong interpersonal skills, team working and focus on delivering benefits for internal customers

Ideal Skills

  • Ability to present data in innovative and visually appealing ways – e.g. Dashboards, PowerPoints, Graphs/Tables
  • Advanced financial modeling skills
  • Experience of the financial management of research grants
  • Experience in standard costing within scientific/manufacturing/engineering industries
  • Experience in financial management/modelling of facilities and capital projects
  • Experience of business systems implementation
  • Awareness of Charity SORP and tax requirements
  • Familiarity with Adaptive Insights or other planning software and use of driver based modelling
  • Familiarity with Agresso and use of Excelerator reports
  • Experience of working in large organisations and cross-functional teams
