Who we are:
The Workers` Educational Association is a unique charity and the UK`s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education. With a clear vision and a strong social purpose, we bring great teaching to local communities, with life-changing courses held in clubs, pubs, workplaces, schools and almost anywhere else you can think of. Since 1903, we have been giving disadvantaged people the opportunity to return to learning – inspiring them to realise their full potential and become active, engaged citizens. We see education as a tool for social justice, not just self-improvement, and we pride ourselves on making learning egalitarian and accessible. Volunteers play a central role in everything we do, from governance through to classroom support, helping us deliver courses to 50,000 people in 2,300 locations – and enabling us to reach 80% of the population.
We have 1 full time (35 hours) position available and 1 part time (28 hours). The roles are Home Based.
Developing, delivering and maintaining a key educational programme, you will ensure that our students enjoy an outstanding experience. At the heart of our closely-knit area team, you will support and manage tutors, engage volunteers and local branches, and identify business development opportunities as well as manage a programme of study. You could also find yourself involved in specialist aspects of regional educational provision, communications, quality and teaching, whilst actively promoting our crucial work – so every day will bring different challenges.
About you:
Empowering people from all walks of life is what we are all about, so we are keen to hear from people in disadvantaged or underrepresented groups. Whatever your background, you will need a degree level education plus a teaching qualification, alongside extensive experience of developing tutors, co-ordinating diverse stakeholders and building voluntary or membership organisations. Equally importantly, you should be exceptionally organised and methodical. The ideal candidate will be IT literate and able to support delivery through a blended learning approach including the use of Zoom, and Canvas, our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
