WCD Hiring for Digital Print – Cutter and Bindery Operator at Calgary, AB Full Time

We are seeking a full-time Digital Print – Cutter and Bindery Operator
Training will be provided for this role. We hire for attitude and trains for specific skills.
The Cutter Operator is responsible for setting up, configuring, operating, and trimming all finishing services for press and digital print projects in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards.
We are seeking a personable, team-oriented, and hard-working individual with strong organizational skills who takes pride in the accuracy of their work. The ability to develop positive working relationships with others and follow detailed instructions is critical to the role.
Our ideal candidate has experience with commercial machine operation and should be comfortable setting up or configuring automated cutters, saddle-stitchers, and folders. You should also have some mechanical skills to troubleshoot issues with equipment and replace worn parts as needed. This is partially a quality assurance role, so the ability to understand the parameters of each printing job and an eye for detail are essential.

Job Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate commercial bindery equipment (saddle-stitchers, folders, and cutters)
• Completes, sorting, scoring, cutting, punching, and drilling on printed materials
• Works meticulously to ensure production quality
• Reviews specifications to determine page sequence, type of fold and page or sheet size.
• Measure from edge of sheet using scale to determine incremental cutting positions
• Enter cutting sizes in proper order into computer memory
• Remove sheets of printed or unprinted paper stack from the load and place them on the cutter bed. Jog and align sheets against the cutter guide in preparation for cutting.
• Examine cut material for any imperfections and adjust computer program as needed.
• Remove finished or pre-finished material from the cutter bed and stack on pallets for shipment to the customer or next operation.
• Record job information on load tags and time sheets.
• Adhere to health and safety standards and procedures

Job Skills and Competencies:

• Perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
• Must be mechanically inclined
• Basic electronic and computer keyboard knowledge.
• Stand and walk 95% of the time.
• Extensive lifting and bending actions.
• Manufacturing environment with noise exposure to varying levels.
• Comfortable working
• Ability to direct fellow team members in the overall operation involved in the job
• Experience with Heidelberg/Triumph cutters is considered an asset

Working Conditions
This position is located in Inglewood district in downtown Calgary, Alberta. Standard hours are 8am-5pm MST. Hours may vary depending on customer workload and demands.
