The WaterAid Finance teamis recruiting an apprenticeship systems accountant role based in the UK. The role will use financial, systems and analytical skills to help provide quality business information to departments across WaterAid. These roles will be a key part of driving forward WaterAid’s ambition of Everyone Everywhere by 2030.

As part of your development, we will put you through your professional accounting qualification, which will involve both on the job training and the equivalent of one day a week out of the office undertaking your studies. You will be expected to commit to completing your qualification with us and in return, you can expect us to support you in achieving that.

The programme requires the post holder to diligently undertake the apprenticeship training programme as set out in the WaterAid apprenticeship agreement and the agreement with the Finance Training Provider. This will enable the apprentice to understand and assist in the operation of an effective finance function by carrying out tasks in an accurate and timely manner, in line with policies and procedures. At the end of the programme you will gain Finance Data Technician Apprenticeship Level with the AAT qualification.

In line with the learning and training programme, additional responsibilities include:

• Providing a key resource to the finance team to support WaterAid’s country programmes and UK departments to deliver effective financial plans.
• Support the Financial Planning Analyst and working closely with the Finance Systems Manager, to provide global support and maintenance of the finance systems including:

o Sun Systems and Vision/Q&A for accounting;
o BOARD for planning/ forecasting/ reporting,
o Basware for invoice processing and staff expense claims processing)

The apprentice will develop the skills necessary to take responsibility for:

• Responding to the support inboxes, producing solutions for user issues
• New user inductions
• Support system communications and help with documentation
• Write bespoke reports using Q&A and Board, for instance to extract data.
• Providing cover for the monthly exchange rate upload to all business units
• Leading on creation and management of master lists (e.g. T5 codes to ensure unique reference number for funding packages), ensuring consistent coding across systems, including the finance system.
• Managing the quarterly and year end finance system lockdowns.
• Support upgrades to software including planning and testing.

To be successful, you’ll need:

• Relevant Degree level education or AAT qualified
• Advanced skills in Excel
• Proven analytical skills
• Strong time management and general organisational skills, with the ability to work methodically and within tight deadlines,
• Ability to work independently
