Position: COORDINATOR, SPECIAL EDUCATION
Department: Educational Services – Student Services Department
Reports to: Director II, Student Services/Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services
SUMMARY:
The Coordinator of Special Education, provides leadership and support to District administrators, instructional staff for the development, assessment, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs throughout the District. Special Education programs include Preschool, TK -12 and Transitional to Adult Living.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development to create a coordinated plan of opportunities;
(IEP) record keeping in accordance with Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) guidelines;
Management Information System (CASEMIS) reporting and other reports as needed;
Program;
(ESSA)-established guidelines;
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Skills: Must have the skills to communicate with individuals from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds in order to direct and support administrative, instructional and support personnel; must embrace an instructional philosophy that is in concert with the District curricular and instructional methodological goals; must have demonstrated expertise in Special
Education, including but not limited to: SELPA functions, scope of programs/LRE/FAPE (Least
Restrictive Environment/Fair and Appropriate Public Education), programs and teacher evaluations, behavior planning; must have a demonstrated ability to direct and facilitate special education functions; and must have a practical knowledge of a variety of assessment and evaluation instruments and their appropriate implementation and the ability to interpret and present data from a variety of sources.
Ability To: Work successfully with administrators, teachers, students, and parents; provide staff development, which fosters sustained instructional improvement and addresses the “at risk” students; speak and write clearly and effectively; and plan effective processes and implementation plans for programs.
Education and Experience: California Administrative Credential or eligibility is required or must be eligible for an intern administrative credential while pursuing an administrative credential; demonstrable experience in literacy acquisition study/research, training and staff development is highly desirable; and experience in Special Education is comprehensive and/or demonstrates a progression of increased responsibilities.
Licenses and Certificates: TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance, valid Driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
