Waltonen Engineering is actively seeking a Linux / Unix Systems Administrator to join our team!

The Linux System Administrator’s role is to operate and tune Linux systems, servers, and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.

This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure Linux / Unix system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for Linux / Unix systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers
• Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement Unix systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
• Install and configure Unix systems and software.
• Implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure Linux system security through secure system access, monitoring, control, and routine security evaluations.
• Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related file systems, input / output systems, clustering, storage, and applications.
• Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from errors or outages.
• Perform and test data backups and restores, in conjunction with the storage team where present, to ensure full data retrieval.
• Review and deploy Linux system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all Linux systems.
• Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
• Monitor, test, and tune system performance; preserve and provide system log files as needed.
• Recommend and execute modifications to Infrastructure in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Qualifications

• Ability to successfully perform the job responsibilities listed above
• Only United States Citizens can be considered
• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• RHEL Certification is a plus
• DevSecOps and Cloud deployment experience is preferred
