Cashier Job Code: 501, 508 s to: Customer Experience Manager Summary A Cashier scans and bags customer purchases, processing various forms of payment for goods and services, and promotes signing up and use of the Wal-Mart MasterCard, while maintaining exemplary customer service by adhering to the Basic Beliefs and values of Wal-Mart. Operate on behalf of the Company’s best interests, while remaining in compliance with all laws Walmart policies, standards and processes. General Responsibilities Practicing the 3 meter Attitude. Greeting all Customers with a warm, friendly smile. Ensuring each Customer receives a friendly, accurate and professional service. Following the “One Best Way” standards of practice. Operating a cash register by scanning items across an electronic scanner to record price, compile printed list, and display cost of the Customer’s purchase, tax, and rebates on the monitor screen. Assisting Customers with the bagging and loading of their merchandise. Informing all customers about the Wal-Mart Rewards MasterCard and processing applications. Promoting company sponsor programs, i.e., credit card service, product protection and charity initiatives, when applicable. Moving to the outside/front of the register, when possible, to greet the next Customer. Watching the area closely and contacting the Customer Service Manager in the event of a problem. Accepting all forms of Customer payment according to company guidelines. Correctly counting back change to the Customer to prevent cash overages and shortages. Checking for “Bob”, “Lisa”, and “Mitch”. Listening to Customer complaints, and resolving problems to restore and promote good public relations. Calling CSM for cheque approvals that need additional support and for expense or cheques. Calling CSM for overrides on Error Corrections or Voids as needed. Making change, cashing cheques, and issuing receipts to Customers. Additional Responsibilities Adheres to all company policies and standard operating procedures. Other responsibilities may be assigned. Maintains departmental operational standards by: Remaining knowledgeable about emergency and safety procedures. Scanning merchandise quickly and accurately. Achieving the “Item Per Hour” goal. Achieving the “Scanning” Percentage goal. Attending all Cashier training sessions. Being familiar with Courtesy Desk and People Greeter procedures. Deactivating all merchandise that is purchased. Demonstrating knowledge about responding to EAS alarms and filling out the “Failure to Deactivate” Log. Practices safe work habits by: Stretching/warming-up prior to shift. Being knowledgeable of and following emergency and safety procedures. Following Health and Safety guidelines. Keeping the area N.C.O. and free of fixtures, unnecessary debris, foreign objects, and liquids. Maintaining unblocked and unlocked exits. Using proper lifting techniques. Stable stacking of merchandise. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations The Associate must complete all Wal-Mart Basic and Advanced Training Modules and classes. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
