Primary Function: To serve as guiding teacher for a class of up to 20 students from grades six to eight, to teach main lesson content and skills as appropriate, to coordinate with special subject teachers, to communicate with parents, to form and maintain a strong guiding relationship with each child in the class. Each middle school teacher holds one class grade, and offers two or three specialist blocks to all other grades, according to their expertise and training.

Teaching:

• Prepare and present daily main lessons and correction of student work as needed

• Develop students’ skill levels in main lessons and extra main times

• Be available after hours for parent conferences and questions

• Teach social skills and fostering healthy social relations

• Maintain discipline, respect and safety within the class

• Enforce rules such as the dress code

• Be available to substitute when a special subject teacher is absent

• Write student s once a year and read the s of the special subject teachers regarding one’s own students.

• Support the needs of students in transition to high school

• Write student recommendations as needed

• Greet children at the beginning of each day and dismiss them at the end of the school day

• Supervise daily chores and cleanup with the students

• Prepare class plays and other presentations

• Plan class trips that support your work with the class

• Clearly communicate with students, colleagues, and parents

• Commit to each student individually, throughout their time at WSP

• Create lively, interactive lesson plans

• Continue on the path of self-development and be willing to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of the students

• Collaborate with colleagues and parents to ensure student progress

• Maintain a beautiful classroom space

• Provide information and opportunities for parents to deepen their understanding of Waldorf education and Steiner’s view of child development.

• Provide weekly communication with the class and individual parents as needed.

• Conducts between 2-3 parent/class meetings per school year.

• Makes home visits to families in the class as needed.

• Holds parent conferences, at least two per year for each child.

• Engages in ongoing personal and professional development, including but not limited to workshops, conferences (both Waldorf and other) and classroom visits.

School duties:

• Participation in weekly faculty meetings

• Participation in school events such as Open Houses, Holiday Fairs, orientations, and other outreach activities

• Orientations and other marketing and outreach commitments as needed.

• Participates in collective school-work at a level expected by faculty.

• Participates in faculty development work.

• Interviews with prospective families.

Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Education or any science field, and 24 months of experience in this role or in a related position. Must have prior Waldorf teaching experience. Must have completed coursework in Integrated Learning, Waldorf Curriculum Prep, Waldorf Methods Math & Language Arts. Job Location: Princeton, NJ.
