The Transmission and Distribution Line Engineer will partner with a multi-discipline team to develop designs of electrical transmission and distribution overhead lines to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the United States. Opportunities to advance into leadership/management roles are available.
Responsibilities:
- Perform, lead, and oversee engineering responsibilities related to overhead transmission line design. This includes PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, developing design criteria, sag-tension calculations, wire blowout, swing angle, damper recommendations, structure spotting, clearance s, wire selection, etc.
- Prepare specifications for construction, hardware, and material for overhead transmission line; structure design and development; hardware design and selection; and field installation supervision.
- Prepare construction drawings and cost estimates for overhead transmission lines
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs and prepare as-builts
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers
- Apply strong knowledge of commonly used line design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services industry
- QA/QC process adherence
- Effective communication with other disciplines and project stakeholders
- Compliance with company and site safety policies
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in civil, structural, or electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Four (4) years of engineering experience, consulting preferred. Master of Science degree in engineering may be substituted for one (1) year experience.
- Experience in 34kV to 345kV line design and working knowledge and/or expertise in Power Line system-based programs (i.e., PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, etc.) preferred
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a dynamic, quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Strong knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques and principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of ASCE 7-10 loading requirements
- Familiarity with STADD, MAT3D, SAG10 or industry equivalent software
- Successful completion of the EPS Quality Manual Training Program
- Strong preference for those with:
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria
- Up to 20% travel required
