About the Role:
As VitaminLab’s Production Manager, you will oversee all aspects of producing our end product: vitamins. This includes the manufacturing processes, production, machinery, safety, inventory, production supplies/equipment and shipping/receiving. Your role will ensure we safely produce high-quality products in the most efficient, timely, and cost-effective way possible, while constantly innovating and improving quality.
The Production Manager will leverage insight, experience and leadership skills to ensure production processes are an aligned, seamless and successful part of VitaminLab and that the production and shipping/receiving teams are engaged, well-supported, happy, growing successfully and achieving production goals every day.
Prior experience increasing production capacity at a high-growth company, leading teams through significant changes, and creating procedures to meet evolving needs are key for this role. The successful Production Manager will have a thoughtful, strategic approach, be familiar with Lean Production or Six Sigma principles, and have experience in a GMP environment.
Duties Include:
– Optimize the overall production process, producing quality products in accordance with product specifications, contract schedules, and costing projections.
– Ensure we meet our GMP and NSF requirements throughout the production process.
– Use Lean Six Sigma or 5s principles to ensure workflows, step counts are assessed while marrying that with appropriate change management for teams.
– Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
– Review daily/weekly production tracking reports (i.e. yield, waste, labour utilization etc.) to investigate discrepancies and develop effective solutions
– Work with our Engineering team to implement our proprietary production processes.
– Research and implement processes that minimize costs and waste while maximizing the highest quality production outputs.
– Plan, implement and monitor short and long-term production, packaging, warehousing and shipping processes.
– Manage and support the lab admin, shipping, receiving, and production teams.
– Collaborate closely with other departments (sales, marketing, tech, etc.) to ensure the needs of the production team are being heard and that the implementation of new partners is always successful at the production level.
– As needed, coordinate production space expansions and changes.
– Oversee the training and development of the admin, shipping, receiving, and production teams and build capacity to take on future production tasks, such as machine operation, machine maintenance, and order queue management.
– Other duties: We’re a startup and growing fast, so we all pitch in to do whatever needs doing!

– You are experienced at inventory management, able to monitor production levels, see patterns in data and consistently hit deadlines, budget and production numbers.
– You are a dedicated team player who can map out complex procedures, account for contingencies, and arrive at the best way to get things done.
– You are good at communicating your vision of the procedures involved and getting others on board with your solutions.
– You are always looking to do things better and use data and research to create a strong, well-reasoned plan of action and, with your dedication, you are able to see that plan all the way to completion.
You Must Have:
– A diploma, certificate, or degree in Operations Management, Business, or relevant discipline; OR an equivalent combination of education & experience.
– 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment; ideally in the food industry.
– 3+ years of experience supervising and providing direction to large teams.
– Strong leadership, communication and multi-tasking skills.
– Experience with growing production capacity at a high-growth company.
– Strong proficiency with workplace tools and technology, such as Slack, Google Sheets, etc. If you don’t know it now, you are a confident learner of new technologies.
– Demonstrated ability to translate strategic direction into tactics to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual objectives
– High tolerance for flexibility, change and ambiguity: we are a start-up after all!
– Demonstrated ability to develop and execute clear objectives.
– Collaborator with strong listening, facilitation and persuasion skills.
– Experience or familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or 5s or other continuous improvement principles and/or Agile/Scrum project management would be an asset but not required.
– Knowledge of GMP and/or NSF policies and methods would be an asset but not required.
