Job Description
The Student Services Coordinator provides administrative and program support to the graduate student services area. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating and executing programs for graduate students, including orientation, graduate education week, social events and workshops; designing and preparing promotional materials to advertise Graduate School events, services and programs; collaborating with various departments and organizations; attending meetings and serving on committees on behalf of the Graduate School; creating content and maintaining the Graduate Life Center and Graduate School Student Services web pages. Occasional evening and weekend work required.
Reporting directly to the Director of Student Services, this individual routinely interacts with a diverse population of students, department personnel, faculty and others on behalf of the Graduate School in a variety of capacities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; experience planning programs and events – from concept to implementation; demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity; proven ability to cultivate positive working relationships, foster teamwork, and support collaboration; proficiency in working with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference given for experience in working with graduate students or non-traditional students; familiarity with Virginia Tech resources, policies and procedures; experience with creating and editing webpage content; experience with designing print materials, such as flyers and posters; experience creating content in design programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Canva.
