About VMIA

Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government’s insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We’re an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.

We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.

We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don’t go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

Your role

As the Accounts Receivable Specialist, you will be responsible for general accounting duties and the management and integrity of the Accounts Receivables (AR) of VMIA.

You will collaborate with the business performance division to ensure timely, accurate and complete accounts for receivable transactions. In addition, you will take a keen interest in continuous improvement for Accounts Receivable activities and processes maintaining attention to detail to provide high quality service delivery to the business our stakeholders.

Your role reports to the Financial Operations Lead in the Business Performance Division.

How you’ll make an impact

• Management of the accounts receivable functions
• Conducting general accounting duties to ensure effective operation of the financial accounting function including:
• Daily banking and receipting
• Daily invoicing for recoveries, reinsurance or any other ad hoc invoices required
• Daily monitoring and resolution of our internal Jira Ticketing System
• Monthly general ledger account reconciliations
• Resolution of Accounts Receivables queries on allocations
• Rigorous application of the financial accounting, tax compliance methods, practices and procedures of the VMIA procedures of the VMIA.

Who you work with

• Financial Operations Lead – to assist and work collaboratively to implement leading practices and processes in accounting, tax compliance, and accounts receivable. To ensure an effective and robust business and financial control systems for the VMIA.
• VMIA Staff– to provide support through efficient and timely processing of all transactions and provision of data in full compliance with legislative and reporting standards.
• Business Performance Team – to work collaboratively to provide cross functional support and back up in all business activities to ensure business continuity and compliance with all business and financial processing and reporting standards.

About you

• Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience in managing and performing accounts receivable and general accounting duties
• A solid track-record in the application of accounting principles relevant for the effective management of the accounts receivable functions
• A keen attention to detail with an ability to organise and prioritise tasks, work effectively under pressure, problem solve and meet deadlines
• Strong Information Technology skills supported by demonstrated experience with accounting systems (preferably TechOne) and MS Excel software
• Demonstrated ability to work and collaboratively contribute to a team environment
• Skills and demonstrated experience in customer service and issues management/resolution in the accounts receivable functions
• A results-orientated mindset, actively participating in continuous quality improvement.
