Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Higher Education
Victoria University is seeking an exceptional, creative and inspirational leader to continue to boldly innovate its pedagogic and curriculum approach in higher education.
Victoria University has been a sector leader in changing the model of delivery in higher education learning and teaching – along with the VU First Year College which was the predecessor of the award winning VU Block Model – this has been the signal learning and teaching achievement of the university over the past decade.
And it has been stunningly successful. So much so, that Victoria University is now rated the best Australian higher education institution in the nation for employability skills.
With these achievements in mind, our new Strategic Plan, 2022-2028: Start well, finish brilliantly, outlines an ambition to be a global leader in dual sector learning and research by 2028.
The Opportunity
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Higher Education, as a key member of the Vice Chancellor’s executive team, will lead the university’s higher education academic programs and will be responsible for the quality of learning and teaching at all its learning sites (including online), nationally and internationally. Through the oversight of the higher education academic units, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Higher Education, is accountable for the academic governance, strategic direction and student impact outcomes.
This important leadership role will drive innovation of the university’s higher education strategy, growth and industry partnerships, both locally and globally, to maximise the benefits for students of a dual sector education, and to position the university strongly in a competitive market. Important to achieving this, is leading the creation of a culture and workplace that attracts talented staff who are driven to impact the lives of VU students and their success.
The major challenge for the position is to lead, along with the vocational education leadership, the implementation of two of our key strategic drivers, doing dual differently and partnering with principle. This will require the identification, building, and support of partnerships and alliances with industry, government and community, through co-design of curricular, industry-based skills training, consultancy and research.
Victoria University is committed to inclusion and diversity and to achieving gender equality in senior roles, and strongly encourages suitably qualified and experienced people to apply.
