V&A East
Directed by Gus Casely-Hayford, V&A East is one of the world’s most significant museum projects in a generation and will comprise two new sister sites, V&A East Storehouse and V&A East Museum, opening in 2024 and 2025 respectively. V&A East’s programming will be in tune with its values of equity, empathy, openness and sustainability. Across its two sites, V&A East will mix the historic and contemporary to create new and relevant dialogues between objects and artworks from varied disciplines, geographies and time periods.
The galleries and programmes in the new Museum and Storehouse will imagine new ways to relate art, design, fashion and performance to society and everyday life today, as well as transform access to V&A collections on all levels. It will also focus on highlighting under-represented movements and voices to present a diverse range of perspectives. By leading cultural conversations and supporting the creation of new work, the V&A’s collection and V&A East Museum and Storehouse will be a catalyst for creativity and space to platform new ideas.
This is a new junior curatorial role generously supported by Frieze x Deutsche Bank’s successful Emerging Curatorial Fellowship Programme. The successful Fellow will start their 32-month programme during the Frieze Art Fair, 2022.
Main Purpose
The Curatorial Fellow will support work on the V&A East Museum and V&A East Storehouse, with a particular focus on curatorial research, development, and delivery of V&A East Museum collection galleries and display spaces. They will carry out collections-based and subject-specific research bringing a contemporary and thematic lens to objects spanning disciplines, time periods, media and cultures. They will work closely with the Chief Curator and Curators, who will lead on vision and content development. They will also support the core Curatorial Team and Project team with devising and delivering project[1]related communications material, talks and events as appropriate. There will be many opportunities for the Fellow to contribute to forward-facing conversations about curatorial practice, become involved in discrete special projects, and shadow team members to enhance their knowledge and experience of the museum sectors.
