Our software development team is responsible for developing networking and cybersecurity products and services for a diverse customer base that includes commercial, government and Department of Defense. They work in an Agile Scrum framework with a CI / CD pipeline. As an Android developer, you will focus on supporting the creation of cutting-edge Android applications for our networking and cybersecurity products and services.

Our software development team is dedicated to working in a collaborative environment with multidisciplinary teams across ANCS and Viasat to create innovative network and cybersecurity products and services. The task of the Android developers is to design and create mobile applications and software, bringing our products and services to end users.

Job Opportunity

Android applications run on the mobile devices of our end users. Android developers are responsible for ensuring a great user experience. They:

• Design and build advanced Android applications.
• Work with the UX team to convert designs into code.
• Continuously learn and employ the latest Android development techniques and best practices.
• Unit-test and review code to ensure reliability and security.

In this position, you will:

• Design, build, and own Android applications for networking and cybersecurity capabilities.
• Work as part of an Agile multidisciplinary development team using Scrum and CI / CD

• 6+ years’ relevant software development experience
• Proven experience in modern Java or Kotlin development
• Innate ability to pick up new software languages, frameworks, and APIs
• Demonstrated design, decision-making, problem solving, and debugging skills
• Working knowledge of Android development best practices
• Solid verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
• Active Australian NV1 or ability to obtain when administratively feasible
• Ability to travel up to 10%

• Demonstrated experience with Android development, linting, and unit testing experience
• Working knowledge of the following databases: PostgreSQL and SQLite
• Working knowledge of Android UI/UX development
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
• Working knowledge of bash scripting and build systems
• Working knowledge of the following technologies: Room, TypeScript, Protobuf, JSON REST, Semantic HTML, Reporting and Analytics, and Data Visualization
• Working knowledge or desire to learn the following deployment technologies: Nix/NixOS, Docker
• Experience hosting Linux servers
• Knowledge of modern secure cryptographic design principles
