Academic Coordinator – STEM AP Access Expansion Opportunity (SAPAO)

The Academic Coordinator for the SAPAO program is a member of the VHS Learning Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Team who supports instructional quality and student success for students enrolled in VHS Learning courses as part of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Expanding Access to Advanced
Placement Grant. The Academic Coordinator will oversee instructional quality of SAPAO teachers, serve as the primary point of escalation for student academic support, oversee summer programming, and ensure instructional practices meet specifications outlined in the VHS Learning grant application. Although this is primarily a remote position, preference will be given to individuals who can travel occasionally as needed, to conduct site visits at schools in Massachusetts.

Specific Responsibilities of the Position
Oversee Instructional Quality and Student Support

• Serve as faculty advisor for teachers of courses within primary area of certification.
• Serve as lead faculty advisor for the SAPAO program, supporting other faculty advisors to ensure consistency in instructional review, reinforcement of high-impact teaching practices, and alignment of policies and practices across SAPAO sections.
• Identify trends across SAPAO sections and suggest enhancement to instructional practices and/or program implementation.
• Support resolution of student concerns, communicating with teachers, advisors, and site coordinators.
• Coordinate response to school-based requests for students in multiple sections.
• Leverage knowledge of course philosophy and approach to brainstorm resolution of support issues in real- time, during meetings with site coordinators or other stakeholders.
• Conduct visits with SAPAO schools, as needed.

Respond to Inquiries about SAPAO Program and Courses

• Build deep knowledge of all AP courses offered through the SAPAO program, including awareness of labs, eBooks platforms, exam requirements.
• Host course tours to prospective SAPAO students and schools, to ensure understanding of VHS Learning curricular model and course elements.
• Respond to questions about the curricula, using curriculum coordinators as resource where appropriate.
• Collaborate with other members of the VHS Learning team to help create materials and collateral supporting the SAPAO Program.

Other Responsibilities

• Organize and oversee summer programming for SAPAO students, including, but not limited to, scheduling office hours, recruitment of teachers for summer contracts, engagement with students to encourage attendance, and oversight of quality of sessions.
• Create micro-credentials to support development of critical instructional skills.
• Support course development initiatives, as directed by Associate Dean.
• Facilitate Online Teaching Methodologies course, as directed by Associate Dean.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ experience in education setting preferred.
• Massachusetts teaching certification in STEM field, preference given to science certification.
• Experience teaching online.
• Experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience working with MS Office required, including proficiency with Excel.
• Strong work ethic, independence, and self-motivation, with the ability to manage multiple tasks. simultaneously to completion. Organized, thorough, able to take and follow directions.
• Excellent communication skills and mastery of English language, grammar, and spelling.
• A positive, customer-first attitude and ability to work in a highly interactive team environment.

Starting Salary: $60,000 – $65,000
