Designated Project Engineer

Permanent opportunity – £70,000 – 80,000 per annum plus package & benefits

Flexible location and working arrangements (working on the East Coast Mainline)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To manage the use of appropriate engineering standards in relation to design and construction and check whether they comply with legislation, and Network Rail company standards
• Carry out the duties of designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects
• To monitor whether suitably qualified and experienced staff are employed to control engineering aspects of all projects within the functional discipline
• Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities
• Review all relevant legislation and liaise with relevant governmental departments
• Monitor the competence of all Project Engineers working on projects within the functional discipline and provide functional guidance, direction and briefing
• Apply engineering controls and procedures to the project
• Monitor all projects for compliance with Network Rail Company standards and Network Rail project control procedures
• Assess whether contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel are competent
• Undertake reviews of design and construction activities.
• Undertake the duties of nominated design and construction / design construction engineer
• Undertake accident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience working in rail civil discipline
• Recognised engineering qualification or preferably a degree in Engineering
• Previously been a DPE or similar for Network Rail project
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer CEng / Ieng
• Strong technical leadership of teams in the delivery of assurance projects focused on delivering for the Client
• Establishment and management quality control processes
• Experience of the application of NR/L2/RSE/02009 standard and associated responsibilities for undertaking Designated Project Engineer duties on Network Rail Projects
• Experience of working within governance processes for project delivery (i.e. PACE) and the engineering expectations of each stage of governance
• Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• To be able to motivate teams and individuals to deliver their best work on projects
• To effectively plan, monitor and control the technical delivery
• Apply principles of rail System Engineering including requirements specification and management, designing for robustness (Whole System Lifecycle), Safety by Design and System Integration and Verification
