Job Summary
This position is responsible for operating the computerized Point of Sale (POS)/cash register, collecting and reconciling funds for daily meal transactions and ensuring a smooth flow of customer traffic. Maintains displays and assists in the preparation of items for sale while working in accordance with HACCP principles.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
1. Operates POS as per established cash, debit and credit handling procedures, ensures all products are correctly priced and completes each sale by issuing a receipt to clients. Prepares cash reconciliation sheets at the end of each shift, balances receipts to cash register tape and balances totals from own cash register.
2. Educates customers on the products being sold and the nature of “student production”.
3. Restocks refrigerated displays, barrels and service stations as required. Merchandises products in an organized, attractive manner to encourage sales and maintains cleanliness of the display areas as per established policies and procedures.
4. Assists in preparation of items for sale including fresh baked goods, coffee, fresh fruits etc.
5. Assists with cleaning tables and removing customer trays.
6. Assists in catering events, delivers foods and assists with tear down and clean up when time permits.
7. Provides coverage for dishwashing, bussing, cashier and stocking personnel during break periods.
8. Wears the uniform supplied at all times.
9. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Grade 10, plus up to 1 year additional vocational or specialized training in a food services environment and over 3 months’ related experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
  • FOODSAFE Level 1


Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and the general public.
  • Good customer service skills and the ability to handle challenging situations with tact and diplomacy. Ability to maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or stress.
  • Experience in handling cash and operating an electronic cash register and/or computerized Point of Sale system.
  • Ability to balance and record cash payments for the purpose of daily sales report preparation.
  • Knowledge of the College’s culinary program and the products for sale.
  • Good communication skills and good working knowledge of the English language.
  • Neat personal appearance and good hygiene.
  • Stellar attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.

Salary Range – Prorated based on FTE
PAYGRADE 14 – $20.4348 to $23.3479 hourly, plus payment in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays.
