Job Summary

This position is responsible for facilitating access to College services, programs and courses by students with disabilities and for coordinating examination accommodations with various faculty and administrative departments.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

1. Liaises with students, instructors and other College service areas to facilitate exam accommodations for students with disabilities.

2. Provides invigilation and support to students with disabilities during tests and exams.

3. Reviews procedures with students.

4. Schedules exams, books rooms and arranges the delivery and pick up of tests and exams to/from Disability Services.

5. May act as a reader and/or scribe in accommodated exams for students when needed.

6. Demonstrates and provides support to students with use of adaptive equipment and software during tests and exams.

7. Receives and resolves accommodation issues and refers complex problems and crises from students and instructors to the Department Head as required.

8. Refers students to other College services as appropriate.

9. Provides reception and clerical support as needed by the department.

10. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Completion of Grade 12 including completion of over 1 year of specialized training in related fields such as psychology, social work, or health sciences and with 2 years’ related experience providing support services to individuals with disabilities within an educational environment or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities

• Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and the general public.
• Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several time-sensitive tasks at any given time. Works effectively with frequent interruptions.
• Experience dealing with people with disabilities and disabling conditions such as learning disabilities, visual impairments and mental health conditions.
• Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the challenges faced by students with disabilities.
• Knowledge of disabilities, confidentiality and privacy guidelines.
• Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with various groups including individuals with diverse disabilities.
• Ability to respond to and deal effectively with change and crisis situations and to remain calm under pressure.
• Experience in exam invigilation, delivering exams and acting as a reader or scribe in accommodated exams.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and act with diplomacy and tact when dealing with issues of a sensitive nature.
• Knowledge of adaptive technologies available to students with disabilities.
• Computer experience and proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, database spreadsheets and the Internet.
• Experience working with large integrated computer database (Banner preferred).

Salary Range – Prorated based on FTE

PAYGRADE 20: $1,713.40 – $1,995.42 bi-weekly
