Core Responsibilities
· To follow established manufacturing procedures and work instructions with respect all assigned work functions and activities, inclusive of control plans, weld symbols, SAP documentation, weld process sheets (WPS) and completed routing travels;
· Tor view and interpret drawings and weld symbols, inclusive of a familiarity with and understanding of GD&T standards;
· To select the welding equipment required and plan a sequence of welding operations through the use of knowledge related to the physical properties of metals, the effects of heat on metal, weld shrinkage, shop mathematics and welding techniques;
· To lay out, position, align and secure the details to be welded using measuring and scribing devices, clamps and tacked welds;
· To use, when required, arc or flame cutting equipment to shape metal components to the specified dimensions or to repair damaged metal components;
· To inspect welded details for imperfections or fissures in the weld, using weld gauges and weld defect analysis, and to make repairs as required, before moving the product out of the work station or process;
· To adhere to the prescribed communication protocol and to inform the Shift Leader or the Manufacturing Supervisor of all issues or concerns related to or affecting the safe and efficient fabrication operation, inclusive of but not limited to non-conforming conditions;
· To complete a formal and document “Five Why” root cause analysis on all non-conforming conditions or occurrences and report the same with transparency along with corrective action recommendations, to prevent a recurrence, to the Manufacturing Supervisor;
· To monitor and maintain the fabrication equipment as relative to general cleanliness and scheduled maintenance; and
· To finish the fabricated component filing, grinding or scraping.
Qualifications and Skills
· A secondary school graduation diploma;
· A completed Apprentice Program and Certification in the trade by the Province of Ontario or equivalent, would be an asset;
· A knowledge of, and familiarity with, welding symbols and basic drawing reading and interpretation skills;
· An understanding of weld defects identification;
· A knowledge of, and familiarity with, quality assurance methods and best practices, including GD&T;
· A proven competency and strength in mathematics;
· A proven competency in reading and interpreting drawings in both first and third angle projection; and
· An ability to work well with others as a part of a team.
