Valiant TMS Hiring for Technical Writer/Trainer at Windsor, ON Full Time

Core Responsibilities

Writing duties include:

· Read and successfully interpret the Customer’s Specification as it relates to the requirements of the task assigned;

· Interpret engineering drawings, 3-D models, analyses (DRBFM’s / FMEA / PFMEA / MFMEA), vendor-supplied documentation, to determine the processes necessary to prolong the service life and minimize the downtime of all Valiant TMS-Supplied equipment;

· Express the preventive maintenance processes (supplied, or discovered through research, experience, or experimentation) using concise language supported by simple illustrations or photographs;

· Work with mechanical skilled tradespersons to documentthe assembly and calibration procedures associated with the assembly, disassembly, and repair of Valiant TMS-engineered products;

· Work with electrical skilled tradespersons to understand the cause and effect of potential electrical failures and document the recommended means of recovery;

· Work with electrical engineers to document the operating controls designed for the equipment and document the recommended procedures required to recover from common logic faults / errors;

· Prepare all necessary Visual Aids required by the Customer to express Work Instructions; Lockout Instructions; and such warnings or maintenance aids as described in the Scope of Work, Customer Specifications, or as directed by the Team Leader and / or Project Manager;

· Print, laminate, and provide to the Build Leader, all Visual Aids according to the Customer’s requirements;

· Use the supplied software (Adobe Design Suite; CorelDRAW; Autodesk Inventor & Publisher; AutoCAD Mechanical; Microsoft Office; SONY Vegas) to create original technical illustrations as necessary to convey accurate instructions to end-users of various levels of comprehension and reading skills;

· Use the supplied photographic equipment (Digital Still and Video Cameras) to create a comprehensive photographic record of the finished build of each assignment, and to capture good quality photographs of components and processes necessary to assist in technical instruction (written and live training);

· Use the supplied software (Adobe InDesign; Microsoft Office; Adobe Acrobat) to create a professional quality technical digital publication (Technical Service Manual) based on a supplied template(s) that combines original and supplied technical writing; tables; photographs, illustrations, and – if applicable – videos.; and

· Use the content of the publication and all associated materials to design a Training Program (when purchased) to teach the Customer’s employees how to safely operate, service, maintain, or repair the supplied equipment.

Training duties include:

· When Training is purchased, the Writer/Trainer will Travel to the Customer’s location to conduct a series of Classroom and Hands-On Training Programs for Production Operators; Mechanical Tradespersons; and Electrical Tradespersons. These training sessions typically range from one (1) week to four (4) week durations. You must possess a valid Passport that allows international (USA/MEXICO/ASIA etc) travel and have no conditions that could permit this travel; and

· Summarize off-site hours and expenses in a report to Valiant TMS Service, Team Leader / Mechanical Engineering Manager, Project Manager.

Other

· To perform other duties as required and as directed by the Leadership;

· Has the authority and obligation to stop production in case unsafe working condition are observed; and Has the obligation to notify his or her supervisor and/or a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee of any safety related matter requiring immediate attention.

Qualifications and Skills

Education / Work Experience

· A Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing or;

· A diploma in Technical Publishing or equivalent;

· Minimum two (2) years’ experience writing technical publications ;

· Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a Trainer / Teacher or similar;

· Practical experience in a mechanical engineering office; and

· Practical experience in a manufacturing environment.

Skills

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint);

· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop);

· Knowledge of CorelDRAW;

· Knowledge of AutoDesk Inventor Professional, AutoCAD; Inventor Publisher;

· Ability to communicate effectively in print, electronic media, and in person before an audience of working men and women, locally and abroad; and

· Have experience travelling internationally.
