Job Summary
The Department of Teacher Education in the Dewar College of Education and Human Services seeks applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position for the 2022-2023 academic year beginning August 1, 2022, and ending June 1, 2023. Rank will be at the Instructor level. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
The Department of Teacher Education is comprised of 30 faculty with 19 initial teacher, advanced teacher, and service degree programs. The department supports students at all levels of their career pathways and is a partner with schools and programs throughout the South Georgia region.

Responsibilities
Teaching 15 semester hours per term (Fall and Spring) in the Teacher Education department at the undergraduate level in a variety of modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online); supervising field experiences and clinical practices; fostering relationships with teacher and administrators across the state; supporting schools within the region; mentoring students of diverse cultures and backgrounds; collaborating in curriculum and instructional development and implementation; and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Typical Allocation of Duties:
Teaching and scholarship – 80%
Teaches classes and conducts/presents research in the employee’s academic discipline.
Service – 20%
Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Required Qualifications
Ed.S/Specialist degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field by appointment date;
Five years teaching experience in a K-8 setting in the USA;
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Face-to-face and Online teaching experience;
Teaching experience in elementary literacy;
K-12 leadership experience;
A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
