Junior Edge Machine Learning Engineer

We are looking for a Junior Edge Machine Learning Engineer to join our team!

Location: Bristol, UK with flexible remote working

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Salary: up to £40,000 per annum

Job Description

This role is for a hands-on Junior Edge Machine Learning Engineer to join our Edge ML Team. We require someone with a background in machine learning and embedded systems with a passion for deploying machine learning on the edge. You will be key to advancing our subsea capability across Edge ML, SLAM, and Autonomy.

Responsibilities

This role will be working in our Edge ML Team. Within your team, you will contribute towards the deployment, integration and monitoring of machine learning models on the edge. You will be actively engaged with ML Production, Autonomy and Robotics Teams in building quality solutions, that will enhance the intelligent decision making of complex systems.

We work in an exciting and dynamic environment where every day is likely to be a little different but here are some of the main responsibilities you will have in the role:

• Build the infrastructure for running our latest machine learning models on edge devices
• Work collaboratively within the ML Production Team to build models and integrate them into our products (such as SubSLAM and Autonomy)
• Optimise models and surrounding infrastructure for real-time, low latency inference on embedded hardware.
• Develop infrastructure and tools for rapid machine learning deployment
• Stay up to date with the latest tools, research, methods and technologies, and keep an eye open for opportunities to apply these
• Create high-quality code to solve super interesting problems

• Continue to learn and develop with opportunities for collaboration and attending conferences
• Develop skills across as diverse range of disciplines, including Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Robotics and Computer Vision

About you & what you will bring

We’re looking for a talented Junior Edge Machine Learning Engineer who has what it takes to make a real impact in this role. If you have these skills and experience this could be you:

• Strong interest in and experience with machine learning and what it takes to get AI working in practice
• Follow software engineering principles and best practices, such as unit testing, TDD and OOP
• Ability to write high quality code that can be easily understood and maintained
• Proficiency with Python and C++, or strong experience in other languages and a willingness to learn
• Experience with embedded and/or ARM devices
• Experience with parallel computing libraries, such as CUDA
• Relevant commercial experience

Additional Experience (desirable but not essential)

You may not have loads of experience in all of the things below and we are happy to work on developing your skillsets, but you will have a general understanding and working knowledge of the following:

• Experience in any low-level, managed programming languages
• Technical expertise in AI, for example deep learning, machine learning and statistics
• Strong experience with MLOps and the productionisation of machine learning systems
• Experience optimising model runtime performance for real-time inference
• Experience with Pytorch, TensorRT, OpenCV, Gstreamer, Docker, ROS
• Experience using machine learning for video processing and computer vision applications
• Experience in the marine or GIS domains
